What is VenaSeal?
VenaSeal is a non-thermal treatment for varicose veins caused by leaking truncal veins. Under ultrasound guidance, a fine catheter delivers small amounts of a medical-grade adhesive along the faulty vein, sealing it shut. Blood reroutes through healthy veins, and the treated vein is gradually absorbed by the body.
How it differs from heat-based ablation
Because no heat is used, VenaSeal requires only a single local anaesthetic puncture — no tumescent anaesthesia along the length of the vein. For most patients this means less discomfort during the procedure, and compression stockings are usually not required afterwards, which many patients in Singapore’s climate appreciate.
What to expect

- You walk out the same day and most patients return to normal activities almost immediately
- A follow-up ultrasound confirms the vein has sealed
Is it right for me?
Suitability depends on your ultrasound findings — vein size, anatomy and any history of allergy are all considered. At consultation your veins are scanned and I go through the findings and options with you, including heat-based ablation and sclerotherapy, so the technique fits the anatomy rather than the other way around.
